Where are we?

Just a couple of miles from the lively village of  Innishannon, the house sits on the bank of the River Bandon on the road to Kilmacsimon.     Take the N71 towards Bandon and then just after Innishannon cross the bridge and turn immediatly left.   The house is 1 mile down the road on the right.

Local History

First mentioned in the Book of Leicester in the 8th century Innishannon was given a royal charter in 1412.  Before the bridge was built, the only crossing of the river into West Cork was at this point, and it made Innishannon an important town in the area.

Nowadays, Innishannon is still a thriving town, with shops, cafe's, bars and restaurants, as well as an organic market which is open every day.

At the bridge is a statue of Billy the Blacksmith - friends tell us that Billy's forge was a gathering point for the locals when Riverbank House was an Inn.  They would sit and chat around the warm forge, then once everyone had arrived, they would all walk together down Riverbank House for a cosy evening at the Inn.   George Allison (the owner) wouldn't take a penny for drink after hours - but that doesn't mean that the Inn closed at that time - we are sure the walk home took longer than it did to get there!

Just behind Billy's statue is Dromkeen Woods, which has recently had lovely woodland paths opened up - it's beautiful all year - but in Spring when the bluebells are out, it's magical.

Fishing

For anyone who loves to fish, this is a great area to explore.   You can fish directly from our riverbank, as it is classed as part of the estuary or try the wealth of options available to you for a small charge.  We are happy to store your fishing equipment and provide a fridge to store your many catches!  The river is famous for it’s sea trout, brown trout and salmon.

Golfing

Cork is rightly renowned for it's amazing golf courses.   From the Old Head of Kinsale, to pitch and putt on Rosscarbery Beach - the options are boundless.   We are very happy to securely store your clubs when you tear yourself away from the fairways to explore everything else this beautiful area has to offer.

Cycling

The quiet roads that wind around the area are a haven for cyclists of all levels.  You can find lots of challenging rides around the area - but equally you could take it easy and just enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside

Sailing

As the River Bandon is navigable, right up to our quayside, you could sail up to our front door, so to speak, and moor up there.   We have power to the quay, so you can arrange to stay on board, or if you prefer, leave the boat and come stay at the Bed and Breakfast - whatever you prefer.
